Where do I start?
Being at Mohican was the best thing that has happened to me in my recent memory. It teaches you responsibility and how to deal with everyday problems, aside from brushing them off. Mohican, I looked at as "another placement" when I got there and I figured that I would just "knock this time out".
And before I knew it I was stuck in the middle of a formal group, all eyes on me with my group waiting on a response to the question "Are you ready to step up?"
I wasn't.
So I admittedly did a few things that set me back. But one thing Mohican teaches is "Problems aren't bad, they are opportunities to learn"
And I did.
I learned that I had a voice and there was a leader inside of me. I had a problem expressing myself in words. My therapist, Mrs. J. Moore was one of the best people I've ever met and we had some of the best conversations I've ever had.
Now I wasn't perfect, I still had problems, but the thing was I learned to work through them without having to be aggressive or simply shutting down.
Also I went to Mohican with 1.25 credits and left with 17.25, meaning I earned 16 credits in 11 months.
The thing about Mohican is you will get what you put in. If the mindset is you're gonna "do time", you definitely will. But if you want to work towards changing for the better and investing in a better future, MYA is the place.
I graduated May, 22nd, 2015 and still that is one of my best memories.
Thank you Aztecs, Mohican staff, Mr. Simmons, my group leader, and Dr. and Nurse Hall.
