Went with Powell for a kitchen remodeling as a first timer hiring a contractor. This experience only proved the point that I can do all the sub-contracting out on remodeling. The kitchen was simple, replace drywall ceiling, install countertops, remove old floor and install new tile floor, install backsplash, and finish trim. Every time he came over, he parked diagonally in my driveway as to block our cars in. The logistics in their office of just giving you an email back or a call back is atrocious. They will give you a 1,000 excuses of why they didn't call you back or she is awaiting Russell into the office, or we were texting back and forth this weekend and I didn't have your number. All he is worried about is his money. The job was supposed to take 2 weeks total when work started ended up taking over two months. He will say they do interest free payments for 12 months but it is only an interest free credit card from Fifth Third, which was not disclosed until 5/3 called me and let me know that.
Spoke a very good game and had has installer Dave (very impressive) come over for a meeting. Signed our contract at the end of April and was told that it would be a few weeks before they could start but their office (Karen) would be in touch. Well, good luck in trying to get anything coordinated through that office. After multiple phone calls, finally set up the start of the construction for the first week in June. During this time, he continually pushed to leave him a key or the garage code so they can come and go as they please when they want to work (didn't happen).
Well, come the day they were supposed to start, they never showed up and Karen said that they had to push it back a few days but made 4 different excuses why she didn't call me or my wife to let us know. The construction finally started a week after they were supposed to originally. It was so distant from when he had originally come over, he had no notes on how much materials were needed or anything so they had to come and calculate, leave, order the materials, and come back the next day.
It took a full 3 weeks after the ceiling was completed to find another tile guy as Dave, who we originally met and liked, was busy with too many other jobs. Finally, he sent his tile guy over to do the floor and it was laid uneven. The floor was a full tile height off in some areas. The sad part of this, was that they laid down all new backer board so it should have been completely even. And when he left for the day, he never told anyone when he was coming back. Finally when all was able to get ahold of him, he was going to come back three days later to grout.
We made his contractors come out more than a few times to fix the errors in the work.
After inspection and making them fix the errors, the work is finally mediocre. I still have to fill the trim pieces and paint them so the kitchen looks finished.
Find another contractor or contract the job yourself!
