I understand that reviews are rarely considered by the consuming public when choosing a place so I hardly ever bother to leave them but my visit to this establishment was so awful that if I can keep one person from having a similar experience it will be well worth my time. This cafe is right on a state highway in a very small town. So I would have to imagine that they get a fair share of "highway traffic." I fall into that category as I was simply taking an alternate route than my norm to visit family. I did a Google search for restaurants near me and this place was the closest so I decided to stop. The date of my visit was 2/13/2018 (in case the owners of this place would wish to address this with staff). I was initially impressed when I walked in. It has a sort of "Amish" feel to the decor. Old style baskets filled with fruit/veggies. A deli counter. Some craft beers along the wall. Cute. As it turns out this place is actually run by a group of rude, unsupervised teenagers. I ordered a sandwich and a bag of chips. Now, keep in mind there is a deli counter 10 feet away from where I ordered and at this time there was NO other guests inside. The child who took my order acted as though it was a complete intrusion into her time that I was there. I asked about cuts of meats, cheeses, sauces and not only did she not have any helpful answers, it was clear my asking about how the $8 sandwich was made was a complete hassle. After finally just asking for it as it comes, she sighed, pounded the order into the iPad POS device and rudely walked away. 12 minutes later I got my order (which, unless it's different in this town, a sandwich is made with bread, cuts and cheese, not a time consuming chore). I then informed the kid that I hadn't finished with my order and I wanted a cup of coffee and chips as well. You would have thought the end of the world had suddenly hit. It was at this time I asked if there was an adult present that could help. There was not and even if there was, I was told they wouldn't do much more than they were doing (which strangely, I believed).
In short, I got an sandwich that looked like it was made with a grade slightly above Wonderbread with dollar store cold cuts and dry cheese. The chips, which I'm sure are only the kind they serve because of the pretty packaging that looks like it's "trendy" were basically tree bark. The coffee was decent, if you put enough creamer into it which, surprise, there were nearly out of. My total for this? $11 and some change.
For my fellow out-of-towners just passing through, here's the bottom line. If this came up in a google search this place falls into the "the locals think it's trendy and don't know any better so it survives" category. It's clear the owners are as clueless as the whiny teenagers who actually run the place.
There's a Subway inside a gas station about 50 yards south. It may not be trendy but at least you know what you're getting.
