The owner of the establishment is a nice man. I think that he has the foundation of a good program. I am however concerned with the conduct of some of the help. For example, this evening my son (age 4) was yelled at for not standing in a line appropriately, and then was threatened with pushups. REALLY, you are going to make a 4 year old do push ups?!?! I think that there is value in martial arts, but as an educator I am confused about the approach that the instructor is using with the youngest and newest group of students. Is public humiliation and threats really the best way to communicate with a 4 year old? Is there training for other, more productive ways to get the children to do what you ask? Teaching through fear is not going to build the love for martial arts that will keep customers coming back, rather it will cause people to leave the program. We had high hopes for this program, but sadly we feel that it is not helping to build the confidence that the program advertises to do.
